Cat is a DC/Maryland based photographic artist and educator. Her photography interests include portraiture and a unique process of transformative work centered around themes of memory, identity, and deconstruction. Rooted in her interests in theory, philosophy, and academia her work focuses on using the photograph as an object which can be altered as a method of rewriting the past. Cat earned her BA in Women’s Studies from the University of MD at College Park in 1997. She spent 18 years raising her six children before venturing out to earn a certificate in Photography from Montgomery Community College in Rockville, MD. From there she went on to earn her MFA in Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design in May of 2021.
As an educator, Cat is dedicated to helping others understand how to use photography as a form of visual voice and to recognize their potential as artists. She has developed and taught courses on topics such as digital photography fundamentals, portraiture, studio lighting, conceptual project development, digital editing, and graphic design. Currently, Cat serves as an adjunct instructor for Salisbury University on the Universities as Shady Grove campus in Rockville, MD. Cat volunteers her time as an Educational Group Facilitator and as Chair of the Judges Committee for the North Bethesda Camera Club. She also serves as a judge coordinator for Mid-Atlantic Photo Visions, volunteers with Potomac Community Resources through photo critique for teens and adults with developmental differences, and offers presentations on various topics for other local camera club organizations.
