PRACTICE

I consider myself to be a multi-faceted visual artist, steady in the commercial industry of studio and portrait work while also holding space for myself to be infinitely creative and imaginative and to stake my ground as a current force in the contemporary fine art world.

When it comes to portrait workflow, my philosophy focuses on connecting with and celebrating my subjects in a way that is creative, compelling, and reflective of the beautiful attributes unique to each one of them. Within a studio setting, I feel the freedom to exploit my creative tools as a means to play, experiment, and allow for organic evolutions to take place within each portrait project. I want my portraits to truthfully represent my subjects but in a way that is special and artistic.

Within my abstract and transformative work, I feel free to explore and extend my practice beyond traditional digital and historic alternative processes. I believe that photography is an ever-evolving medium with undefined boundaries that should be continually pushed into new realms of definition. My work reflects my desire to explore new and creative pathways while honoring the influence of contemporary and historical references as a means of informing the process. I believe it is imperative to read, research, and understand how philosophy, theory, intellect, language, and past human experience inform and create legitimacy within the artistic process. While my current process hinges upon a certain level of academia, I also believe that some of my best work has been born out of accidental discovery. Using my camera as a means of artistic expression, as a tool for the visual mediation of ideas, and as a way of authoring ingenuity within contemporary photographic practice is the heartbeat of my discipline.
